As someone familiar with both dermatologic screening standards and aesthetic medicine, I think it’s important to add some perspective here.
A thorough skin assessment is based on clinical expertise and pattern recognition, not simply the length of the visit. Experienced providers are trained to rapidly identify suspicious lesions, pigment irregularities, vascular changes, actinic damage, and other dermatologic findings with a highly focused exam. More time spent in the room does not automatically equal a higher quality evaluation.
Micaela Irwing is exceptionally knowledgeable, technically skilled, and respected for both her clinical judgment and patient care. In the DMV aesthetic and dermatology space, her reputation speaks for itself. She combines strong bedside manner with an advanced understanding of facial anatomy, skin health, and evidence-based practice.
It’s also worth noting that scalp examination is not universally performed in every routine skin check unless there are specific risk factors, symptoms, hair/scalp concerns, or patient requests. Skin cancer screenings are tailored based on history, visible findings, and clinical indication.
The front desk team being described as professional and kind is actually consistent with the standard of care and culture this practice is known for. Patients are absolutely entitled to ask questions or request a more detailed discussion during their visit, but implying that a concise exam reflects incompetence is simply inaccurate.
Medical professionals should be evaluated on the quality of their assessment, clinical accuracy, safety, and outcomes, not on whether the appointment felt theatrically long enough to justify the copay.

Very disappointed with my experience.
Before scheduling, I specifically asked if my insurance was accepted and was told yes. Based on that information, I made the appointment and paid my copay when I arrived.
After the visit, I found out the practice does not actually take insurance and later received a bill for almost $300. Had I known that from the beginning, I would have never scheduled the appointment.
My issue isn’t with the provider. My issue is with the lack of transparency. Patients should be given accurate information about insurance coverage before making an appointment, not after they’ve already been seen and billed.
Just be aware and make sure you verify everything for yourself before scheduling.

Rachel is so amazing at what she does! Not only is the atmosphere calm and inviting (especially the heated lounger bed), Rachel is so sweet, welcoming and knowledgeable! She spends time to get to know you and your concerns and really goes out of her way to provide the best services. She has done wonders for my acne prone skin that I have been dealing with for 10+ years - with product recommendations, lifestyle changes, and of course the best hydrafacials and dermaplanning! I can’t recommend her enough and always look forward to my next visit.

The front desk staff and customer service were excellent, and everyone was friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the skin assessment itself was disappointing. The nurse practitioner spent only a couple of minutes with me, did not perform a thorough examination, and did not even check my scalp. The visit felt rushed and incomplete for something as important as a full skin check. I also hope the billing accurately reflects the actual time spent with patients.

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Walia for the past two years. Thank goodness we discovered Dr. Walia in the Washingtonian’s Best Doctors edition and scheduled a visit when we did. Dr Walia saved his life by discovering and removing two skin cancers and we are forever grateful to her. Not only is Dr Walia an excellent medical professional she and her staff provide caring and compassionate service. No detail is ever too small. Now, I’m having an elective LaseMD procedure and there is no one I trust more than Dr Walia and her team. Can’t wait to see the results of this skin care treatment.
